All instructors are highly motivated and dedicated in achieving the highest possible levels of instruction in the art of TaeKwon-Do. The lessons are conducted in a disciplined and enjoyable manner that encourages participation and learning. Our classes are tailored to various skill levels ranging from absolute beginner to advanced, squad training is also practiced for students entering National and International Championships.
Burbage TaeKwon-Do Academy are affiliated members to United Kingdom Global TaeKwon-Do association, the International TKD federation and a member of the British TaeKwon-Do council.
All Instructors hold first aid certificates and are CRB Certified,
What is Taekwon-Do?
Taekwon-Do is the Korean art of unarmed combat, founded by General Choi Hong Hi in 1955 for self-defence.
Scientifically taught to maximize power and effectiveness with physical and mental training practiced by millions of people around the world.
Taekwon-Do is a way of life - Tae meaning jumping or flying, to kick or smash with the foot. Kwon: means punch or destroy with the hand or fist, Do: means an art or way. Taekwon-Do is based on the the five tenets, Courtesy: Integrity: Perseverance: Self-control and Indomitable spirit.

Children in TaeKwon-Do!
Taekwon-Do is fun time for children, they will learn important skills needed for a good start in life, skills that will help them develop a sense of self esteem and confidence.
The classes are well disciplined and the students are taught never to misuse the skills they learn.
The physical training will develop good co-ordination, suppleness,
concentration and awareness from an early age.
Women in Taekwon-Do!
Taekwon-Do is ideally suited to women. Its not great strength that is needed to defend yourself. Its the combination of knowledge, technique and confidence, achieved through regular training and practice. Application becomes a natural reflex action, when effectively applied. Taekwon-Do can give women the confidence they need to meet any threat of being a victim.
Health and Taekwon-Do
The knowledge acquired studying Taekwon-Do offers several unique advantages to the physical fitness of the student. It is in most cases , practiced alone, which means that the body sets its own limits, injuries or strains are rare, one's physical condition sets the pace automatically. The entire muscle system is brought into play, from fingers to toes. Taekwon-Do's high repetition, low resistance movements develop a longer, leaner and more flexible musculature. These muscles have more of their areas close to the blood supply routes, thus producing maximum endurance and well being.
Competition
Competition is not for everyone. The students who wish to compete, there are local National and International Championships held regularly throughout the year. Students may compete once they have reached the grade of yellow belt, this can be achieved after 3 months of regular training. The competition consists of three disciplines; Sparring with no contact (semi-free), Patterns , Special technique and Breaking for adults.
All the events are divided into grade and weight categories.
